Community Focus
I grew up in "Little Sweden" USA, Chisago City, MN, an area settled by Swedish immigrants in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Chisago City's history of Swedish immigration was popularized by Villhelm Moberg, the famous Swedish author. Mr. Moberg lived in Chisago City while he wrote one of his famous books from The Emigrants Series, a collection of four books which outlined the life of a typical Swedish immigrant family.
My experience on the Chisago City Council further demonstrated to me just how much our community is influenced by our Scandinavian ancestors. Whether you are looking at the tea pot water tower, the bronze statue of Villhelm Moberg's fictional book characters or the bronze statue of Mr. Moberg himself, the citizens of our community are proud of our Swedish heritage. Furthermore, as Minnesotans we have become proudly familiar with the truly Scandinavian attitude. It's a laid-back, hard-working demeanor, which can be summed up in the famous saying, "Minnesota Nice." I have no doubt that this was passed along from our Scandinavian forefathers. I am happy to have kept our community's heritage active both politically and within my Swedish family.
Ugglebo is focused on working with our community on economic development, on expanding our parks and any other program that makes the Chisago Lakes Area a better place to live, work and visit. Without a doubt the most important aspect of Ugglebo's sustainability is maintaining a long-term partnership between us and our community. As citizens and employees, we represent our community. We only get back what we put in… we all make a difference one-day-at-a-time, one-project-at-a-time, big or small. Sara and I love the Chisago Lakes Area, "Little Sweden" and we plan on growing together.
Sincerely,
