As a young boy I read a statement that forever changed my life. I was playing on a friend’s computer and a little owl designed to teach and help children learn suddenly came into sight and made the statement: “Wonder is the first key to wisdom, how wise are you?”
Upon seeing Ugglebo’s owl logo at the Swedish factory for the first time years ago I couldn’t help but think of this saying and the little owl character that has shaped my life so much.
Children today are faced with new and even more complex problems than previous generations. Solving worldly problems such as limiting green house gases and feeding the ever increasing world population will require bright minds with problems solving skills and new ways of thinking. It is Ugglebo’s firm belief that ALL children deserve the chance for an education. However, given poverty, societal and other barriers many children world-wide are unable to gain the education they deserve. I would venture to guess that if you were to ask any of these children what they want most a vast majority would say they want to go to school far more than anything else. Children want to learn and they absolutely deserve that opportunity.
Ugglebo means "owls nest" in Swedish. The owl is the universal symbol of wisdom and the nest is a symbol of nurturing and growth. Ugglebo cherishes both of these values and we will do our very best to share them with children in need.
Ugglebo donates 5% of our annual profits to the nurturing, growth and the passing of wisdom to disadvantaged children through education.
Although I didn’t name Ugglebo and come up with the logo 45 years ago, I couldn’t think of a name and logo that could ever mean as much to me as our little owl does. Children are the world’s future and Ugglebo will do whatever we can within our means to help shape that future by giving children in need a chance.
